On 2 October, Jorge Machín Mezher, Director of Escuela Hispánica, chaired a panel on human dignity at the international congress “Francisco de Vitoria and the School of Salamanca: Christian Humanism and Human Dignity”, held at the San Esteban Faculty of Theology in Salamanca.
The panel brought together David Torrijos-Castrillejo, Mª Idoya Zorroza Huarte and Santiago Leyra-Curiá. Their contributions addressed the reception of Vitoria’s thought, the sources of his understanding of human dignity, and the relationship between freedom of conscience and authority.
The gathering examined the Salamanca tradition from complementary perspectives, placing human dignity at the centre of a dialogue between history, philosophy and theology.
Escuela Hispánica also participated in other sessions. León Gómez Rivas contributed to the panel “América de gentes y dignidad humana”, while José Carlos Martín de la Hoz spoke in the session on the search for truth in Francisco de Vitoria and the School of Salamanca.
These contributions reflect Escuela Hispánica’s commitment to studying a tradition that connects human dignity, the exercise of authority and the search for truth.
