Collaborator: Escuela Hispánica
Dates: April 17 and 18, 2026
Location: Lisbon, Portugal
In April 2026, the Escuela Hispánica will participate in an international symposium in Lisbon organized together with the Sociedade de Estudos e Acção (SALL), dedicated to reflecting on the cultural, legal, and political foundations of public life in Western democracies.
The meeting will be held in the context of the 50th anniversary of the Portuguese Constitution and will bring together academics, jurists, thinkers, and representatives of civil society to analyze the recent evolution of the European constitutional framework and its relationship with fundamental freedoms.
The activity will begin on April 17 with an academic dinner organized by the Escuela Hispánica at the Grémio Literário, conceived as a space for intellectual dialogue among international participants. On the 18th, the main symposium will take place, structured into several round tables dedicated to central issues of the contemporary political order: the dignity of human life, family and childhood, freedom of conscience, and the cultural foundations of Western civilization.
The Escuela Hispánica will participate especially in the final synthesis session, intended to offer a collective reflection from the Hispanic intellectual tradition, in dialogue with other European traditions, on the principles that sustain political coexistence and the common good.
This meeting is part of the internationalization process of the Escuela Hispánica and also reflects its interest in integrating and claiming the Portuguese tradition of thought within the common framework of Hispanic intellectual culture, contributing to the public debate from a historical, philosophical, and comparative perspective.
